mojoPortal is a well-respected, popular, open source web Content Management System (CMS) that is freely available.  We chose the product in early 2009 after reviewing the CMS marketplace and have been using it successfully for our UK and mainland European clients since then.

Out of the box, mojoPortal can be used to create highly functional and compelling websites with built in support for blogs, forums, newsletters, site membership, photo galleries and much more.  Combine this with the ability to produce custom skins for mojoPortal to control the look and feel of a website, and we have an excellent tool for website development for our clients.  Because it is a CMS our clients can easily update the content of their websites without the need for specialist technical knowledge.

However, mojoPortal really shows its strengths when it comes to the development of web applications. It is designed to be easily extensible, which means that we can develop specific features (such as providing secure interaction with a client’s main business system) which can then be used in conjunction with the standard features of mojoPortal to provide a complete and customisable web application.  The key advantage of this is that our clients only have to invest in the production of the features that are specific to their business.  The framework of the web application is already in place and does not need to be re-implemented.  This can drastically reduce the budgets needed for the development of many web applications.
